Requirements

Minimum educational qualification:

  • General Education and Training Certificate (GETC)/Grade 9 (Std. 7).

Experience:

  • Appropriate experience in the operating of a high-volume switchboard in a hospital environment, a messaging and paging system.

Inherent requirements of the job:

  • Shift work, night shift including weekends and public holidays.
  • Work overtime when required by operational requirements.
  • Physically able to hear and speak clearly.

Competencies (knowledge/skills):

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office: Word and Excel).
  • Ability of operating an electronic Switchboards (paging system).
  • Knowledge of handling alarm systems related to switchboard.

Duties (key result areas/outputs):

  • Effective telecommunication skills.
  • Effective perform of duties, paging , handling and answering of calls
  • Maintain internal telephone directory.
  • Report all faults to Telkom and other technical service providers.
  • Ensure that switchboard and telephone equipment is in working order.
  • Provide relief secretarial, clerical and administrative support to the supervisor.
