In this role you will be expected to manage all public affairs, protect the company’s reputation, and show appreciation of external legislative requirements for BMW Group’s engagement in South Africa & other African states.
You will represent the BMW Group in relevant political institutions, relevant industry associations, and political circles. Act as a public relations specialist for the BMW Group by coordinating legislative efforts through working with state, national, and provincial governments as well as communities and the media. Monitor key political developments at national and provincial government level by securing relevant reliable information and political assessment to AK-4. Assist in ensuring that the organization meets legislative goals by creating conducive working relationships with government agencies and citizens.
You will have to create and uphold a positive public image for the BMW Group; support management for the local lobbying process in response to political developments and through the integration of central strategy. Ability to ensure approval and continuing compliance of BMW plant and other operations within the legislative framework. 

Ensure the early involvement of BMW Group in potential changes to automobile legislation in South Africa through close interaction with legislators with the aim of avoiding negative impact to the BMW business model. 

This function will require you to take responsibility for filtering and communicating relevant political information within the company; take responsibility for the coordination of content for political and stakeholder events as well as initiate and manage Corporate Social Responsibility activities of BMW South Africa. 

Finally you will engage Stakeholders in the field of Sustainable development and be expected to act as a point of contact between BMW South Africa and all state organs – at National and Provincial government level. 

Qualifications and experience

  • A Post graduate degree with specialization in Communication or Political Science. 
  • 10 Years’ experience in a Communication / Public Relations or a Government Relations role. 
  • Experience in the automotive industry will be an advantage. 
  • Experience in working for a large international company is preferable. 
  • Ability to speak multiple languages will be an advantage. 
  • Excellent relationship building & networking skills as well as an ability to liaise & interact at all levels. 
  • Experience in working and operating within other African states. 
  • Inclusive business approach and credible communication skills (including Presentation Skills).
